In the interim, Lau also spoke with The Verge to confirm that there will indeed be two smartphones launched, with the Pro variant featuring a “super-smooth and very crisp” display, lending weight to rumours about a 90Hz, QHD+ display. He also confirmed the OnePlus 7 Pro will be 5G-enabled.
OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7 launch date announcement
OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 launch date will be announced at 6:30pm IST today, OnePlus India took to Twitter to reveal. This is in line with OnePlus CEO Pete Lau’s tweet from last week. A previous leak by a reliable tipster had pointed to a May 14 launch date for the two smartphones, and we don’t have long to wait to see if this becomes a reality. Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for the OnePlus 7 launch date announcement this evening. Notably, the OnePlus global handle on Twitter was at the time of writing silent about the time of the launch date announcement.
As we mentioned, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau spoke with The Verge this week to detail a few features of the company’s next generation flagship smartphones. Apart from confirming the existence of two models – the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 – Lau said the former model would use display tech to make it “fast and smooth”, adding the company has “invested significantly” to develop the display of the smartphone. The technology is said to be 3X the cost of what’s used in other flagship displays. A previous leak had tipped a 90Hz QHD+ display – the first QHD+ display from OnePlus, which usually sticks with full-HD displays. The rumour fits in well with Lau’s statements, and the CEO also clarified the model will have 5G connectivity.
In terms of other specifications, OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro were recently part of another leak that claimed OnePlus 7 Pro will be 5G-ready and will come equipped with a 6.7-inch display with a QHD+ resolution of 1440×3120 pixels, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and the highly anticipated 90Hz refresh rate. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC and will come in three variants – 6GB/ 128GB, 8GB/ 256GB, and 12GB/ 256GB, with the onboard storage standard being UFS 3.0 for faster data transfer.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is tipped to come equipped with a triple rear camera set-up that will consist of a 48-megapixel primary camera with f/1.6 aperture and OIS as well as EIS for stabilisation. It will be accompanied by an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and 3X zoom capability, and a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and 117-degrees field of view.
